Warnings from the Farmers Almanac

Early predictions from the Farmers Almanac indicate a cold winter in the East with at least six large weather events.  I’m inclined to agree, especially if the current weather pattern holds up.  Take the typical summer Bermuda High. Where has it been?  Must be vacationing in the Bahamas.  Our high  pressures have been slipping down from Canada behind frequent cold fronts.  That sets up a moisture stream from off the Atlantic and frequent cold air wedges that bank cool, damp air against the eastern Appalachians.  This contributed to the 16 inches of rain that fell in this area in July.  Think of that in terms of winter snow and you’ve got the makings of a Buffalo, NY winter down here in the mid-Atlantic.

Did someone say ‘Heat Dome’?

Here in the Mid-Atlantic we’ve been experiencing one of the more moist and unseasonable summers in recent memory.  We thought the cool, wet weather was coming to an end with an emerging heat dome coming up from the south.  Well, evidently the dome didn’t get the message.  Nothing beyond more showers is headed here for the next several days. While the temps will nudge higher, don’t look for any heat waves.  If things work just right we might finally get a warm, dry weekend.  But stay tuned!  It’s too far out to promise that just yet.

Aside

Hello weather fans!  Ever look to your local weather forecasts for guidance only to see two or three different possibilities from each outlet.  One says rain; the other two call for maybe a shower chance, but don’t worry about it spoiling your plans.  Yikes!  I’ll help you make sense of it all and let you know what I expect.  It’s armchair, intuitive weather forecasting at it’s best!  Stay tuned and give me your input and together we can come up with something that’s accurate and fun!
